The Japanese crossword is a scrambled picture. You can see the empty grid and some numbers in cells at the left and top of the grid. Each number means how many continuous cells are filled in the hidden picture (length of the filled block). Filled blocks of cells are arranged from left to right and from top to bottom. At least one empty cell or a cell with a different color should be located between filled blocks.
Let's start with a simple example:
If the number in the beginning of a row (column) is equal to the width (height) of the game field, then this row (column) consists only of filled cells. So, row 5 is filled. |
Also you should see other lines where the number is greater than a half of game field width (in our case it is 5). For such rows/columns you can fill the middle of row (column). So, 2nd and 9th row hae 6 and you can fill 2 cells. |
.
The 6th and 7th are filled similarly. |
Now look at the fourth column. It contains 5, 1, 2 block, and you have only one way to fill it in a non-contradictory manner. Do the same with the fifth column. |
Do as above with rows 2, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9. |
Then proceed with columns 3, 4, 7 and 8. |
There is only one way to fill rows 4 and 8. And now you see the complete picture. Congratulations, you solved the crossword. |
